18 Inches Down

Moving Truth from the Head to the Heart

18 Inches? Huh?

You might be wondering: what is this site all about? What does “18 Inches Down” mean? It comes from a quote by Andrew Bennett:

The longest journey you will ever take is the 18 inches from your head to your heart.

We know a lot. We have available to us a wealth of information. There is also much misinformation out there, but if we are honest, we already know enough to do what we are supposed to do.

•  That miracle diet may or may not help, but if I want to lose weight, I’m gonna have to eat right and exercise.
•  “My parents were too strict on me, so I’m sowing all the wild oats I never got to.” But the truth is, I’m responsible for my own lack of self-control.
•  That company is filthy rich and hires sweat-shop workers in foreign countries. But I am still wrong if I steal from them.

We know the truth. We have heard it already. Our mind has collected that information. But we have not experienced the truth of that knowledge in a first-hand way. Our head has knowledge, but it needs to be applied and experienced and practiced. Turned into heart wisdom.

This blog attempts to speak to the heart using the language of the heart — pictures. Parables. Metaphors. Because when you see something clearly in the light, you act on it. You get excited about it, or angry at it, or melancholy about it. You understand it as never before, and it changes your way of doing things. I want to assist the Holy Spirit of God in shining light on your heart so that you can see the truth and apply it to your lifestyle.

I want to help you to truly see so that you can truly change. From 18 inches down…in your heart.

Hi, I’m Deanne!

Biblical counselor, budding author, and domestic engineer. I enjoy reading, studying, thinking, and writing about it all. I crave simplicity, laughter, and a cup of hot tea in the morning. Metaphor and allegory is my thing, and I enjoy using it to help myself and others understand spiritual concepts.
