Have you ever been to a chiropractor? I have heard some people say that they are not all they are “cracked up” to be (yuk yuk). I slept wrong on my shoulder this past year and was having pain so my doctor referred me to a chiropractor, and it did the trick for me.
The premise of chiropractic care makes sense. They align your spine and your nerves, and then you come in twice a week for a couple of months and have it realigned. Over time, the chiropractor has less and less corrections to make, as your spine and the muscles supporting it become stronger and stay in place. The appointments are then spaced once a week, then once every two weeks, then monthly, and finally you only occasionally need chiropractic adjustment when you forget your age and participate in a young person’s activities. If you need additional care because you twisted or jarred your back or limbs, you go in for a quick readjustment. My shoulder problem was solved within a month of chiropractic care.
I received my diploma in Biblical Counseling. And I find counseling and chiropractic care to be very similar. Some people consider it unnecessary…until their emotional nerve is pinched and they become desperate for relief.
God created our spirit, soul, and body to work in alignment with each other. Life is to flow from spirit, through the soul, and out in expression through the body. From the deepest part, radiating outward, like an inner glow. Like a spinal cord of Holy Spirit life.
But often, we get twisted or jerked around or we carry ourselves wrong, and our personal spine gets out of alignment and we have pinched emotional nerves and pain. And that’s when a counselor – a spiritual chiropractor – can step in and help us. A Biblical counselor can aid you in realigning the spinal cord of your life, and then the other things tend to take care of themselves.
But you don’t want just anyone helping you! When the chiropractor goes to pushing and you hear all those bones snapping and crackling like a bowl of Rice Krispies, you tend to find yourself glancing at the wall and double-checking the chiropractor’s diploma to make sure he knows what he’s doing. Messing with the spine is dangerous stuff; you could really damage something! And the same is true of those you take counsel from. You want to be careful that they know what they are doing.
The only one who can properly align your life is Holy Spirit. Worldly advice will only provide you with muscle massage at best. But Holy Spirit can work through a counselor to provide applied wisdom which aligns your life with the true Life described in the Bible. He doesn’t need a degree to do it, but it helps if the human counselor has studied the ways Holy Spirit heals best. And it helps if the one being counseled relaxes and allows Him to adjust whatever He needs to.
In counseling, just as in chiropractic care, you need frequent readjustments as you learn to walk in His ways. Life often jars us or jerks us around just after we leave the counseling office. These can be dealt with by immediate prayer and Holy Spirit counsel, but sometimes we need a human to speak the words of the Lord to us because we can’t hear them clearly on our own.
That’s why I am offering an innovative new service: eCounseling. The Internet is the perfect place for continual contact and quick realignments. But no one is offering this kind of care: they are stuck on the old model of once a week one-hour sessions. You need personal contact and accessibility to others who can help remind you of the wisdom you have learned. You need someone to walk with you and encourage you back again and again toward the Holy Spirit, toward the Wonderful Counselor. You need someone to speak His words for Him when you are unsure which voice is His in the midst of your pain.
You don’t need a human counselor at all. If you are a Christ follower, you have the Wonderful Counselor within your spirit and you possess all you need in Him. But it may help for you to hear it through one of His assistants. I am offering that with my eCounseling service. And I am charging a fee because “the laborer is worthy of his wages” (Luke 10:7), but it is intended to be affordable while still compensating me for my time and education.
Take the time to have your spiritual spine adjusted by Holy Spirit so that you will receive the nerve signals the way they are supposed to flow: from spirit, through soul, and out the body. Then return back again and again – daily, moment by moment even – to be realigned. A regular time alone with Him is vital to your health. But if you are in pain and need some human Holy Spirit assistance, email me and let’s get your alignment corrected.
